The Original Concept

The idea for the SureFlex snowshoe was born out of a need for a frame that wouldn't break all the time as others did. We used to like to go into the mountains on snowshoes and jump off of things into the deep powder snow, we snapped or bent so many shoes that way. We had 2 choices go to a heavier frame or make the frame flex. We chose the flexing option, the frame is sort of like spring steel, it bends and then returns to its original shape, only the frame is made out of aluminum. Other benefits are better cleat contact on uneven hard crusty surfaces and longitudinal flex for the best traversing ability of any snowshoe on the market. I'll talk more on that later on.

Sherm became involved when as a good friend and neighbor he was driving his jeep home and saw my flashlight out in the field behind my house at 9 or 10pm. He pulled in and came out to investigate. I was trying to see if the frame was flexing the way I wanted it to, but couldn't walk and do that at the same time, so Sherm gets down crawling around in the snow with the flashlight watching the flexing action. We were partners from then on.
